Tyrol's Zugspitz Arena
You couldn’t get a region more Tyrolean than the Zugspitz Arena. Villages with a local flair, breath-taking summits, fabulous hosts. Having said that, due to its exposed geographical location the region is oriented more to the north – towards Bavarian - than to the south, where the Fernpass joins the region with the rest of the country.
Berwang – top location in the Zugspitz Arena
Berwang, the highest town in Tyrol’s Zugspitz Arena, lies on a sunny plateau with a breath-taking panorama view of the Zugspitze. What’s more, the Lechtal Alps are also close at hand. With a fresh, healthy mountain climate, a wealth of Alpine flora unusual for the West Alps, hundreds of kilometres of hiking and mountain bike trails, ski runs and many more facilities, Bergwang does not leave any holiday dream unfilled.
Berwang in SUMMER
Even in high summer, hikers in the Berwangertal don’t tend to sweat a lot. Berwang lies at a healthy altitude and is therefore an ideal starting point for stunning hikes in the mountains – with the Berwanger Sonnalm lift to the upland meadows, or, for the more discerning hikers, up to the Namlos and Rotlech valleys. The cosy Weiler and Dörfer Rinnen (reservoirs) Brand, Mitteregg, Namlos, Anrauth, Kleinstockach, Bichlbächle and Kelmen are all easy destinations for family hikes. In the saddle of a mountain bike you can conquer the peaks a little quicker. And if you want to cool down at the end of a day of activity, try jumping into a wonderfully situated open-air pool with water slides and a large area for sunning yourself.
Berwang in WINTER
Skiers and boarder come into their own in Berwang without the usual ski circus: easy to more demanding runs take you right to the middle of town. Winter holiday in Berwang is much more than powering down the slopes, going on tour or trying for first carving in the ski- school. Here you’ll find perfectly prepared loipen at all altitudes. Sunshine accompanies your winter walk, moonshine as you toboggan or ride a horse-drawn carriage. And you’ll need plenty of luck when you play against local curlers. In Berwang, you can enjoy Tyrolean cosiness with body and soul.
